"Yangon will get its first Hilton hotel in 2014 after Hilton Worldwide announced plans to build a 300-room luxury property in Myanmar's commercial capital.

The Hilton Yangon will be located in Centrepoint Tower, a mixed use commercial property and one of the city's tallest buildings, according to a report by Mizzima.

The hotel will be built in partnership with LP Holding Co Ltd, a Thai firm that owns the 25-storey tower through a build-operate-transfer agreement with Myanmar's tourism ministry.

"Backed by a strong partner like LP Holding Co Ltd, we are very confident that as the first internationally branded hotel in Yangon, Hilton Yangon will set the benchmark for quality hospitality experiences catering to both domestic and international travellers," Andrew Clough, senior vice president of development, Middle East & Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide, said in a statement.

The new Hilton will provide a significant boost to Yangon's overstretched hotel capacity.
Yangon currently has just 8,000 hotel rooms, The Myanmar Tourism Federation told the Financial Times last month, "but only half of those are for international market," Kyaw Htun, the federation's joint secretary-general said.

Mr Kyaw added that Hilton's arrival in Yangon would help the federation's aim of adding 1,500 hotel rooms to the city by 2014.

Tourist arrivals to Myanmar were up 30% in 2012 following the start of sweeping political reforms that began in 2011, with officials predicting the country will receive up to 2 million tourists annually by the end of the decade."

Yet another overpriced hotel in Yangon, beats me where they dream up some of the prices for even a mid range hotel but it's still hard to find a room at any price.

Yeah, but it's all about status and image Bob.
"Look at us, we have a Hilton."
