Heresy: fully automatic dirt bike?

Now don't get me wrong: I'm not an expert saying this is a good idea (in fact, I'm just learning to ride a fully automatic scooter in Chiang Mai, going round the moat counterclockwise), but why not? As an engineer, I know that automatic transmissions have improved so much in cars that they were banned in Formula 1 races when drivers began winning using them. So why not in dirt bikes? Do they even make fully automatic dirt bikes, or any full auto motorbike that you can drive in the mud?

Torque converter > clutch? True or false? We're talking about performance, not fuel economy.
