We've been talking seriously about riding down to Penang, Malaysia and taking our bikes on the ferry across to Sumatra.

My friend Robert Hiekel did it a few years ago WITHOUT a carnet but he doubts whether that would be possible now.

Any advice on the area would be great.

hmm, I doubt it, but maybe u can try it just like Robert did before. The only problem is how to pass the border, about policeman who will stop you and asking your carnet in the street it will zero possibility.

Btw did u rtw with out a carnet?
