Ed, Duncan, R 1150 erosion & Mae Ngat Dam

Route taken from Chiang Mai

Ed & Duncan were headed for Chiang Rai for the evening,I had to head back, but rode north on R118 with them, Duncan's beautiful 2003 Triumph Speed Triple 675 below

Ed's new white Kawasaki Versys, the white is a 5,000 bht extra, well worth it

After I left them on R118, I took the beautiful curvy R 1150 westwards back towards Chiang Mai

Very clear day at the end of rainy season here the view from R 1150 over the city of Phrao

With the the rain just finishing the greens were ultra bright

There was evidence of at least 30 landslides from the past torrential rain on R 1150

The road had collapsed in several places on R 1150, this one particularly nasty

This landslide on a side road off R 1150 would have given you a headache, the boulder was sizable

The road the boulder above is on is a north turn off R 1150. New concrete work was underway and about 5km north was now concreted, great views from up there

This was the end of the concrete road going north ( need to give this to Auke so he can update the north Thailand GPS map)

Further west along R 1150, major work had begun to control the cliffside erosion landslides

Even structural rocks below the road to add support

Then off to see the water level in the Nam Mae Ngat Dam, map of its location below

Huge dam wall

Water level was about 1.5 meters below the top of the control gates

That brown suede-looking seat on the KTM looks really nice. I assume that's the modified one?

Has Renazco Racing signature on it, did it suck or did you get it refitted and used his cover again?

If I am not mistaken that Dam is the one with a decent collection of little restaurants at the north end of it..

Last time I was there someone had a jetboat out in the water, and they were wake boarding and tubing.. Looked like fun..

I bought another seat pan and Renazco did their stuff ....amazing seat, foam density & shape is perfect. Best custom seats in the world.

He even does DRZ 400 seats which is so tempting

That guy you took me too did a superb job on my second seat pan.. Really impressed..

Plus Somchai Machine shop came up trumps on some racks, just how I wanted them made..

Chiang Mai is so well set up for mod stuff.. Love it..

Would you take a photo of the racks and seat and put them up here so I can see what he did?

Seat isnt on the bike yet, I chucked it in Nuts where I will get the seat, tour tank, dirt rims, etc on this week..

Racks.. Similar design to yours but I wanted to 1) be further back so that saddlebags hang over the rack 2) not mount on the plastic bolts but on the subframe and pegs mounts.

Only small thing is the pain he used is not well bonded.. He did try to get me to powdercoat it but I was impatient and cheap.

If I had to quibble I would have put them just an inch lower.. But they will do fine with the softpacks I have.

How much for the rack and the pannier frames? I need something like this made for the KLX

I already had the rack.. Tho I only put it on for tours..

2k to make the side frames.. Done in 24h but had to leave the bike.

I want to see that DRZ seat all finished, interested in the rear width and shape

As promised.. Saddle mods..

Bike now in touring trim, long range tank, fat arse saddle, and racks.

Note the 3rd panel of vinyl added at the rear of the saddle to create a better finish / line.. Not just pulling it tight and stapling it down.. Good work. Double stitched seams too.
