During the early hours of this morning the driver of this car decided to not turn at the corner of the moat but to carry on straight ahead, the only problem was this tree was in the way

I wonder if Cockpit can plug that one, three of the cars tyres were punctured from the crash
DSCF8376.jpg

Out along the 118 and the bubbling stream is my first stop

DSCF8388.jpg

Now I am riding on the 1252 with stunning scenery but a not very good surface

Some new foam handlebar grips were put on this morning, as the bike originated from the land of the rising sun these grips are very apt

The surface of the 1252 is pretty awful for most of the way, in places its potholed with loose gravel and other debris, this freshly surfaced section was no fun and at other places the road is waiting to be surfaced

The resurfacing crew enjoying their break
DSCF8404.jpg

DSCF8405.jpg

Hes whacking that pin for all hes worth, no wonder its bent
DSCF8406.jpg

Now if they were to use this device along the entire length of the 1252 a couple of times in each direction that would be a major improvement
DSCF8410.jpg

A short section of the old well surfaced bit that is fun and safe to ride on, sadly it doesnt last for long
DSCF8414.jpg

DSCF8415.jpg

Now on the 1335 and another road that needs attention to turn it back into the fine twisty road that could be ridden in confidence, loose gravel and damaged sections are the problem on here

The Kio Lom reservoir
DSCF8423.jpg

I decide to follow the canal on an unmade track today, the unmade section started at N18.30.886 E099.37.838
DSCF8424.jpg

Now this is what I bought the KLX for, nothing too hazardous just unpaved surfaces, I could happily ride along here standing up

Are these a kind of Thai turnip? apart from potatoes I dont like root vegetables
DSCF8429.jpg

DSCF8430.jpg

The crews are weighing, washing and snipping at them

DSCF8433.jpg

A bit further on and this woman is doing her washing in the clean clear water of the irrigation canal
DSCF8434.jpg

After 20 km I reach the 1035 at N18.24.751 E099.32.607 and thats a new offroad section for me today that I have just ridden
DSCF8437.jpg

I stop for fuel at a PTT get some water in the 7-11 then its a quick lube of the dry dusty chain then its off to Hang Chat and a ride home through the Khun Tan National Park

The Huay Nam Pep waterfall
DSCF8445.jpg

DSCF8447.jpg

Not far from Khun Tan railway station and I have never noticed this before, I remember reading that part of the northern railway line had sunk during the wet season, perhaps this was where it happened
DSCF8455.jpg

Along the 2031 at N18.34.110 E099.15.394 I take a left to ride to the Ta Ku reservoir, it was only a 1.1km rough track up to it
DSCF8457.jpg

From here its a pleasant ride home

BE BEEz cafe at 136/5 Ratchapakinai Rd N18.47.188 E098.59.423

Chicken cordon bleu and chips, tasty filling and only 150 Baht, these were possibly the nicest chips I have eaten for a long time

ride to the Ta Ku reservoir

I have often thought of taking that side road, glad you have found the water there ;)

That beamer must have been looking at the cheap menu prices on the sandwich board on the nearside pavement at the time it forgot to round the corner !! :jump

Colin, sorry to complain mate but when you take pics of reservoirs , can you try and get a bit of the sluice gate with the water level behind it or something to show us the perspective of water height - Was Kio Lom full ?

Ally

Ally the water level was up to maximum, it was just a low level concrete overflow, I will now make sure I get photos of the water levels

Hi Chris

No I am not planning on going to Laos at the moment

Great photo's Colin, that KLX is certainly getting some good use, might have to change my 6 months odometer guess.
