Promotional opening of new boutique hotel in Chiang Rai

The newly opened "At Chiangrai" boutique hotel in Chiang Rai has a promotional opening tariff of 590 bht a night down from their printed room rate of 2,200 (????).

I havn't been here myself, but looking at the photo's of the rooms, it looks like it may stretch to being a 1,000 bht a night room, so it's still a good deal.

Chalets 700 Bht if you just use the downstairs area, 900 Bht if you use the upstairs bedroom as well.

Charin Garden Resort

39 km south west of Chiang Rai on R 118 (co-ords: N19.69651 E99.58114) , famous for it's delicious home made cakes, it gets totally overlooked as a place to sleep. They don't seem to market the accommodation at all, which is just across the river.


Lovely suspension bridge to get across the Nam Mae Lao river to the bungalows.

Interesting... Phil's second last post is about the Rimkok.

I stayed at a Rimkok Resort on the other side of the river earlier this week... about the same location, but on the Mae Sai side. Sorry, crappy room photo

Rack rate according to the card on the reception desk was 3,900 through to 8,000 baht... but I told them I was Davie's mate... and I got in for 1,200 baht.

Place has an ageing feel to it with, for example, a bit of brass showing through on the bathroom taps.... but the grounds are great.

Crossed that bridge to the right in the morning and headed down the back way onto the 118 and back to Chiang Mai. IIRC its the 1112. Nice way around the traffic.

The food was good at the resort, but pricey. Leo large at 170 was a sting. Foot massage wasn't cheap either... but it was good. Breakfast was excellent and included in the price.

Kanlaya is now charging over 1,000 Bht low season and to me have priced themselves way out of the market. Check out the B2 Chiang Rai above which ticks all the boxes for cheap/ quality.
