Australia Day Ride - Sunday 26th

A good excuse for a ride - and no double demerit points to be had.

Ex Chiang Mai and 250k's on this iconic day.

What say meet at Riders corner at 10 for a 10.30 departure. Head out on the 1001 to MaeJO, cut through the university and follow the seldom used twisties for 27k up to where it meets the 1001 again, turn right and stop at Phrao (100k's so far). Head east on the 1150 for another 50k's (I'm sure a coffee stop somewhere near here wouldn't go astray either)before turning south onto the 118 for 95k's back to Riders Corner for a well earned drink and feed.

Please advise if anyone prefers an alternate route.

Map reference points are -
A - Meet Riders corner at 10am for a 10.30 sharp departure.
B - Ron (2 wheels) will be waiting here under the big sign just past post office (eta approx 10.45) to join us.
C - Coffee stop? The White Mug just a few k's prior to turning left onto the 1150.
D - Fuel and coffee at PTT Phrao before heading south on the 1001. (Apologies for Google maps directions in Phrao )
E - Turning left immediately after the canal off the 1001 to take back road passing Royal Chiang Mai Golf Course (see pic)
F - At back of Maejo university turn right to get back to the 1001.
G - Turn left onto 1001.
H - Back in CM (approx 4 or 5pm) - dependant upon number of and length of stops along the way.
I'll probably then head over to the Downunder Pub http://goo.gl/maps/NokXG (at the eastern end of Loi Khro Road) for a good 'ol fashioned Dogs Eye (meat pie) and listen to some Ozzy music :RO.

Plenty of coffee stop options along 118.

Enjoy the day but cannot join in the ride and festivities. Loei beckons so am off on Sunday for a few days to Issan and back.

Had a great day not only on the road but also at various stops both along the way and after the ride.
Was interesting to compare the 3 CRF's - all in different kit (sounds like another thread or 2 starting up).

Met up with Ian and Tim and a few Aussie expats near Doi Saket to embark on our Australia Day ride.



We headed towards Phrao on the wonderful #1150.



There were a few hazards on this road.



And a fair bit of road works.



We were keen to get off the bitumen so took a track, not knowing where it would lead to.



Looking good so far.



Stopped at this little coffee shop which happened to sell an Aussie icon ……



…. lamingtons.



Being a Sunday we decided to visit the local Church to give thanks to good health, freedom and motorbikes.



Then to the local pub for a quickie.





And Vegemite on crackers of course.



Ian looking resplendent in his Aussie bonnet.



Onward to seek some Aussie flora and fauna.







It's surprising what's out this way when you take the time to look around.

Fairly dry out here, so off to find another pub.





And a hearty dinner.
