Looking for a few interesting multimedia show presentations Jan.11

"HU is looking for a few (2-3) 30-45 minute multimedia show presenters for the HU Meeting January 11 (Saturday) at The Riders Corner Bar and Restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Friday night is slated for a "Welcome Reception" starting at 6:00 PM. Sponsors are donating free Heineken draft beer for thirsty travelers from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM.

Saturday night is a BBQ starting at 6:00 PM (call, e-mail Rider's Corner for reservations), and then 2-3 multimedia shows afterwards. Swilling and chilling until closing time."

[Both nights are usually wild motorcycle adventure tale sharing evenings at the "Crazy Corner," known globally as the touch point for serious motorcycle adventure travelers passing through SE Asia and The Golden Triangle. The character Crazy was played by Gene Peterson in the 1953 film titled The Wild One, Crazy being one of the early adv riders. A stunt double did 25 crashes for the film before the director decided they had a keeper, at $25.00 USD per crash. The crashes sounded similar to those that happen occasionally when a rider over cooks the 90-degree turn on which The Rider's Corner is located....the sound of screeching metal on pavement. A relative of the stunt double was recently in Chiang Mai. ]

(The below Draft Agenda was leaked to a media source today)

Horizons Unlimited Meeting January 10-11, 2014 Update

All presenters have been secured for Saturday night multi-media shows, as have sponsors for the 1 hour of free Heineken draft beer during the "Welcome" Reception Friday evening from 18:00-19:00. Reminder: all events are free but attendees wanting to feast on the "best BBQ in Chiang Mai" (200THB) on Saturday night must make a reservation with the Rider's Corner (0870481787, 0856188914 or email riders.corner.cnx@gmail.com). This is a special discount price for HU Mini-Meeting attendees.

Registrations for the HU Meeting have been flowing in from around the world. One serious motorcycle traveler from Australia advised us he was traveling from Dili on a "Postie Bike," a Honda CT110. A media representative from a global motorcycle publication asked that a chair be reserved for he and his photographer, and was told all seating, both nights, is on a "first come, first serve" basis. Possibly bring your own chair because last year over 100 attended and seating/standing overflowed into the parking area in front of the Rider's Corner both evenings.

Note to self, pull your finger out and attend this one, the free Heineken will be a deciding factor :DD for this great event.

Thanks to all for setting this up.

Seems like I'll get there just a few days too late. Still, great pix!

Part One of an excellent event.
Many interesting people with interesting bikes and fascinating stories.

DSC01615.jpg

Oz did a great job as MC.

DSC01627.jpg

Greg had to throw together a good presentation on short notice because the first listed presenters had bike problems and couldn't make it to Chiang Mai.
(I think Greg's done this sort of thing a few times!)

DSC01629.jpg

DSC01623.jpg

Then Ian 'Bigfella' showed us that it's not so much a matter of distances covered as it is 'smelling the roses along the way'.

DSC01625.jpg

And in doing so he came out with the quote of the night in reference to a particularly muddy, narrow and treacherous track somewhere in Cambodia …
"I was too scared to walk it so I rode it"! :DD

DSC01631.jpg

Then Geoff entertained us with his 'Poor Circulation' presentation.

DSC01637.jpg

A good event and venue.

Traveler Affiliation Announced At HU Meeting

Master Chef Tony from Tony's Place located in Nan attended his first Horizons Unlimited Meeting and proclaimed his well known restaurant "traveler friendly" for global travelers and Horizons Unlimited associates, members and travelers from around the world, a new touch point for Golden Triangle riders.
Tony.jpg

Below the Shaking Hands (some unique Golden Triangle jocular-bad-comb-over-rider terminology used by old hands) business affiliation between Rider's Corner in Chiang Mai and Tony's Place Rider's Corner in Nan was officially announced to the motorcycling media and Golden Triangle riders with over 100 serious motorcyclists, key people and hardened road warriors in attendance at the meeting. Tony Chichester (left) and Phillip Gibbins (right) consummated the global motorcycling branding at the Horizons Unlimited Meeting. Horizons Unlimited travelers now have a second touch point and physical location in the Golden Triangle to find a motorcycle friendly atmosphere, well-known "great food" and wealth of information that is unassuming and with no hidden agenda, a form of motorcycle friendly branding that was warmly welcomed by the motorcycling, overlander and cycling community.

It was a good couple of days but my thoughts on what was missing was an opportunity of attendees to go on an organised rideout. This happens on other HU meetings that I have attended in other parts of the world and have mentioned it to Greg Frazier for a possible inclusion for next year.

Those of us who are fortunate to live up here in Chiang Mai, know and ride the great roads regularly with local knowledge, so would be a bonus share with others not so fortunate to enjoy as we do.
