[h=2]1,000-yr-old Buddha statues found
Published: 14/10/2012 at 07:10 PM Villagers in this northeastern province on Sunday discovered more than 10,000 statues of Lord Buddha that are about 1,000 years old.[/h]
The ancient statues were found in the middle of a forest in Si Sa Ket's Kantharalak district.
Luang Por Somsak Sirithammo, the abbot of the Srapang Thong temple, said he and a group of villagers initially planned to build a dhamma retreat in the forest.
Some villagers accidentally discovered the statues while they were chopping down trees to build a pavilion, he said.
The abbot said the temple will build a room to protect the Buddha statues and allow people to worship them.
