Great that John has got this recognition, he deserves it, very special what he's developed in Pang Mapha, Mae Hong Son.

You're right about the hoards will come now (great for John), but it will spoil the local feel of the place.

I stay in some bungalows similar to the ones in the pic above.

They are over the bridge and to the left and also have some bigger rooms with a veranda at the front overlooking Pai and the lovely mountains in the distance.

Rooms are ok for 500 baht/night but a little out of town.

Pai Baanthai Resort



Good chalet style resort in Pai for B600 low season. Its about a 3min ride into town. Rooms are clean and comfortable with air conditioning.

We asked if we could park our bikes by the room, staff were happy to accommodate.
