[h=2]New update of the Thailand Street Map (GPS Map) released[/h]Latest map version: 2012.40 (TSM v.2012.40).

The update cost for TSM version 2012.40 is 450 baht*
* the cost is per one map version only.
Customers who buy GPS by Garmin (Thai OS units) are eligible for free map update for one year period starting from the purchase date.
After the period is expired, you need to pay the update cost.**
** Except the owners of Garmin models that are eligible for free life-time map such as nüvi 215W or models that come with Lifetime Map Update package such as: nüvi 2465LM, nüvi 2565LM, nüvi 2575LM, nüvi 3770LM, nüvi 3790VLM (start from July 1, 2012), or customers who buy Lifetime Map Update package , for example.

There are some rumors that the map updates will be more frequent (probably 4 times per year) than during the last few years when there were two updates per year. There is no detailed description what exactly had been improved but their website GPS Society | GARMIN -Authorized Distributor indicates the following:


Data for version 12.30 released 2 months ago:

  • Update Thailand road data.
  • Update 820,000 points of interest (POIs) for navigation.
  • Introduce Nostra Guide data** including categories such as shopping, attractions, and restaurant.
  • Update Junction Views in Bangkok and Chiang Mai (for compatible devices only).
  • Add warning sound and message when approaching traffic light.***
  • Add new 3-D buildings in Bangkok and terrain views for up-country (for compatible devices only).
  • Update telephone numbers (navigable).
  • Support traffic report* (for compatible devices only).
  • Update Lane Info for Bangkok, Greater Bangkok, and major cities in Thailand.
  • Support automatic Thai/English map switching for dual language map (for compatible devices only).
  • Improve text-to-speech or TTS (for compatible devices only).
  • Support intersections search (for compatible devices only).
  • Support parking lots search (for compatible devices only).

The Version 12.40 includes enhancements such as:



Update Thailand road data.
Update points of interest (POIs) for navigation.





 
wow only 450 baht!!! I can remember paying 23,000 Bht for my first Thai GPS years ago from ESRI. Nice to see some tangible progress being made.
