It had been a few months since I had last ridden, what with the prolonged hot season and the bike being sick.

I was going to Laos at the weekend and to Myanmar for the group ride at the beginning of August but found myself with a few days to spare and still in need to buy my train tickets. As I had just returned from England with a few goodies, had still yet to try the new tent that was brought over for me a few months ago (thanks Rob) and needed to give the new cylinder and piston on the CRF a good run out, I decided to head to Kanchanaburi for a few days of riding and camping up at the very north of the Srinakarin Reservoir.

Kanchanaburi train station (N 14.03401, E 099.52553) where I had problems trying to buy my train tickets to Nong Khai and Chiang Mai without my passport (finally managed it in the end).

Couldn't locate any staff at the Thai Guesthouse (N 14.03294, E 099.52220), where I usually stay in Kanchanaburi town so I returned to my old favourite the Blue Star Guesthouse (N 14.03478 E 099.51714) where the oldest rooms are only 350฿ with a/c and hot water. Basic but good value.

As usual I ate dinner at Bell's Pizzeria (N 14.03382 E 099.52000), another one of my favourites. Good food and value for money.

Looks like a great few days away in the rainy season. Is that tent much lower than the Hubba Hubba? or just the camera?

Interior peak height is just 86cm compared to the Hubba Hubba's 100cm; it's noticeable.

However both the tent volume and floor space of the tents are the same. MSR have not 'cut corners' to shave the 882gm of the Hubba, rather cut the headroom :p

Will be very interested to see how the tyres hold up in the mud in Laos Craig.

I'll keep you posted Bob. The plan currently is to stick to the main roads as much as possible. I don't want any dramas like last year and contemplate abandoning the bike again... :white flag:
