Wat Sa Laeng and Doi Pong Muen Historical Park

On the way back from my recent trip to Laos I spotted a big new Buddha statue sticking out of the forest and, as I was not in a hurry, I decided to have a look. In the end I barely looked at the Buddha Statue as there were so many others interesting things to see in the same area. Wat Sa Laeng (N18.09399 E99.83151) and the Historical Park (N18.10238 E99.82718) are located just a bit north of Long on Rd. 1023 between Phrae and the junction of Rd 1023 with Highway 11 to Lampang



In the area north of Wat Sa Laeng there is an area called the Doi Pong Muean Historical Park. I have not been able to find any information on this historical park but I did find quite a few stupas and shrines but most if not all of them looked quite new and some of the buildings looked like that the construction had stopped.

Last week while on my way to Phrae I popped once more into this temple area as I was told that I had not seen all of the temple complex. And yes, once there i found an ancient temple hiding under the trees in the corner of the temple complex

Nice! I was there 3 weeks ago .... but could be motivated to get of the bike ... will do that next time!
Hoping for a bit less chance of rain days ....
