A convoy of vehicles themed “return to the birthplace, uphold the revolutionary tradition” will be joined by about 400 people representing various government offices and the business community, according to Lao News Agency.
The caravan will leave Vientiane Dec 11 and reach Viengxay, Huaphan Province, on Dec 13, said Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Chaleun Warinthrasak.
Viengxay is the former revolutionary stronghold of the Pathet Lao force. The caravan of around 100 cars will leave Vientiane early in the morning of Friday Dec 11 and pass through the provinces of Borikhamxay and Xieng Khuang ending up in Huaphanh.
The caravan is part of celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Dec 2) and the 95th birth anniversary of late President Kaysone Phomvihane(Dec 13).
The vehicle caravan will travel on Road 13 North to Viengxay, Huaphan Province, and depart the northern province for Vientiane on Dec 14, Mr Chaleun told a press conference.
The purpose of the caravan is also to promote the growth of tourism in the northern provinces of Xieng Khuang and Huaphan and to pay tribute to those who fought for the national liberation decades ago.
