G'Day,

Some pictures taken out at the Moganshan Mountains near Hangzhou (Zhejiang).
China....over here - every day is an adventure ride out....

Started off in Shanghai, took the Italian Diva on a early weekend morning run to Suzhou / Tongli (Jinjii, Taihu, Diashan Lakes) and the way back turned somehow into a temple run ending at the HQP Roadhouse Cafe & Restaurant Shanghai, brilliant day out with great weather.......

Great weekend trail riding between Moganshan - Anji - Huzhou, no tourist groups in this part of the mountain range in Zhejiang province near Hangzhou....

You must be one of the luckiest men in the world to have a Multistrada to ride in that region! How do you find the Multistrada in the dirt?

Please keep the stories coming, this is very unique, thank you.

G'Day,

The Ducati MTS is not a hard core off-road bike and whoever says so ain't telling the truth as the 17" wheels limit serious offroading, but the MTS is great for gravel roads and fire trails. Pirelli Scorpion Trail Tires (front / rear).

My MTS is a limited edition 2012 Multistrada 1200S Pikes Peak with a few performance upgrades like Termi titanium race exhaust and custom flashed race ECU, got the bike registered in November 2011.
Love and enjoy my Italian mistress to the fullest as much as possible as long its dry, hate the rain over here......

Living in China for the last 24 years (Shanghai is my actual home base) after Thailand and had my fair share of bikes over here in PRC.
Been around the entire country for business and pleasure and got a few stories to show and tell....

G'Day,

Two Honda Z50JZ bikes, angry one with a high-performance engine (Takegawa 154cc dry-clutch 5-speed) based on the Thailand Honda Nice 108cc motor with tons of mods and custom parts.
The other one was nicknamed "shopping trolley", a custom build sidecar for beer runs and great to shift the kids around.

This setup looks fantastic! How much is this complete??
Jialing JH600 Sidecar = 48000 Chinese Yuan equals approx. 7815.94 US Dollar
Jialing JH600 Solo = 31600 Chinese Yuan equals approx. 5145.49 US Dollar

side-note: I own two different Jialing bikes (solo and sidecar) as the sidecar cannot be removed easily due to disc brakes all around (all three wheels) and the sidecar wheel steers via interlinked cable and rods.

They are good solid fun, just don't expect a light race or dual sport bike... JL sidecars are build like a tank.... wait we get to the better parts in this thread later on.....

Hello, Butch. Long time no see. Franki
Mate, yeah, been quite a very long time we had contact, good to hear your still around....

Good Morning China!!!

Do you have some contact details where I can order it from?

G'Day,

Bike was picked up outside Sanya (Hainan Island) from a shipping company depot. Had to go over to Haitang Bay for a meeting and took the sidecar for a run in loose sand to check the capabilities before hitting the beach for a cruise.
The JL sidecar is quite heavy (approx.400kg) and slow speed has the wheels digging in and loosing grip.....

mate, don't just look at the pics, click the Jialing link in post #8 in this thread.... good luck dealing with the JL company, quite sure Franki has contacts there as he was out and about the JL factory a few years ago.
got both my JL bikes from the Shanghai Jialing representative as i need all the official invoices and supporting docs to get the bikes legally registered and licensed here in China.

On the way back to Sanya (Dadonghai District) checked out a bike shop apparently fixing HD's, CJ and JL's, typical crappy China bike repair shop with no spares in stock the way the shop looked. In case someone needs to visit the shop in the future, GPS: N018°14'332" / E109°31'181" (not far from the Sanya Downtown Duty Free Shopping Mall).
Mate living in Sanya is trying to get his Chang-Jiang 750 sidecar (CJ750 = China BMW R71 1938 Copy) going again with the help of the bike shop but the rotten electrical system is quite a challenge for some time....

Butch: Haha, I am still alive & kicking.
Phil: I am riding the JH600 (without side car) in China for the pass 5 years.

TB - How much per night?
mate, no idea to be honest but should be around 15-20US$ max., never stayed there, its different for me on Hainan Island as i have a company and office down on the island for many years and frequently down there for business....

Hainan Island is quite deserted off the beaten track, overcrowding only takes place at the hotel resorts located along Yalong Bay, Haitang Bay and the touristy spots like Yanoda Rainforest Park, End of the World, Nanshan Big Buddha, etc....

Spent two days up at Riyue Bay / Shimei Bay area (1.5hrs. from Sanya City) with our son surfing with the guys at Surfing-Hainan (RiyueWan).
Brendan (Surfing-Hainan) and some guys hang out at some really deserted beaches with decent swells especially after a windy tropical downpour.

Back at Sanya City and Sanya Bay area.
Besides tourism and the ongoing scams and rip-off in seafood restaurants, Sanya's other big business is wedding pictures.
Any day of the week you can find hundreds of wedding picture studios and couples along the beaches / parks taking tons of pictures.

Weddings sky-high as costs of banquets, extras double
By Hu Min | 2012-12-30 | Shanghai Daily Newspaper
_________
SHANGHAI couples are expected to spend more on their weddings next year as prices of wedding banquets and other services spiral upwards.
The costs of banquets have doubled compared to five years ago, whereas such service fees as photography has soared almost 90 percent in the past two years.

The price for a wedding banquet stood at 4,000 yuan (US$645) to 6,000 yuan per table on average at local four- star hotels. At local five-star hotels, the cost is 6,000 yuan to 10,000 yuan per table on average. The Westin Hotel in Shanghai quoted about 6,888 yuan to 10,888 yuan, including a 15 percent service fee. The Yan'an Hotel prices banquets around 4,000 yuan to 6,000 yuan.

In 2008, a table cost only a little more than 2,000 yuan on average for most four-star hotels in Shanghai.
The increase will range between 10 to 15 percent next year, the Shanghai Wedding Service Association predicted.

Despite soaring prices, some popular hotels said they have been almost fully booked next year except for a few days in July and August.
The association said newlyweds' pursuit of lavish weddings has boosted the price in recent years, even as fewer weddings are held.

It has been a trend for a year or two, He Lina, secretary general of the association, said yesterday. She said the price of wedding banquets has grown even though the prices of ingredients have not risen nearly as quickly. Menus vary slightly every year.

The surging prices have been a burden on parents who have already saved money for an apartment for newlyweds. Higher prices force them to dip into their pensions, she said, even as they hope youngsters will stop trying to "keep up with Joneses."

A July survey by Shanghai Wedding Exposition organizers that polled 3,000 couples who had booked banquets or were planning for weddings found local couples host 16 to 17 tables on average and many ask for help from parents.

"Local couples are decreasing the number of tables as they are 'running a deficit' with cost outpacing 'red envelopes' with money gifts," He said.

After a couple of days business meetings and hanging out with mates in greater Sanya / Yalong Bay area made my way up north from Yalong Bay to Wuzhishan: Wuzhi Mountain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia passing by the tropical rainforest park called Yanoda: Yanoda Rainforest Tourism Zone of HaiNan
Skipped Yanoda Tropical Forest Park this time as I had to take overseas visitors twice to the park in 2012 and the two visits last me properly a life time, noticed quite a lot of real estate (villas / hotels) going up in the immediate area surrounding Yanoda Park.

Great pic's TB, is the JL a good bike?

I would love to have one of those restored CJ-750's but it will be impossible to get them on a Thai book.
Maybe a Chinese plated one and drive over the new Chiang Khong bridge every 6 months :-)

I have been to Suzhou very often as my companies HQ is there, very historic and quite beautifull area, specially near the huge Taihu lake.

Very nice to see the post, good report about Hainan 'caz I have never been there as a Chinese.
I have a JH600-A, always wanted to have a JH600 Side car. I live in Kunming, let me know if you have a chance to come to ride in Yunnan Province.

They are what they are and I am happy with my JL's as cheap daily runners, would I buy one outside of China >>>> NO

I would love to have one of those restored CJ-750's
Take my advice and stay far away from the unreliable CJ's, they only look cool, had my fair share of CJ's but they are just a heap of shite old bikes, looking good parked in the game room or garage.
Restored CJ's.... you can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter.....

We are quite often out near Taihu Lake, at the Suzhou Tank Testing grounds....

been there done that many times, great riding in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.....

Got a nasty surprise after paying the entrance fee 50RMB to Hainan Wuzhishan National Nature Reserve.... pictures say more than words and did not bother to look around any further and hit the road down the mountain direction Boao: Bo'ao - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Needless to say, quite sure this was my first and last visit to this particular nature reserve called Wuzhishan....... still, great winding roads going up though.

The snack bag packed before my Sanya departure helped a lot in the middle of nowhere in a huge flashy apartment complex with no restaurants / shops around just yet, bit foggy that morning with lower temperature compared to Sanya area but warmed up later on.
