Does anyone have any experience on this route?

Any ride reports that include this stretch? I do not recall noticing any.

Should be no problem - have done parts of this route over several trips from 2006 till now and while parts may have become worse, other parts have become better like from Xayphouthong to Savannakhet which is being upgraded at the moment. Don't forget to visit the Khmer Temple Ruins at Huean Hin about half way on the part along the Mekong - see http://khmerization.blogspot.com/2011/04/khmer-ruins-south-of-savannkhet-laos.html for some of the history of that place.

Had a post on this area on another forum but that post seems to have disappeared as a search for it does not give results.

Thanks for the tip on the "Stone House" LR.

As I was pushed for time on the way to Savannakhet I ended up going up Rt.13. Nothing like 2 hours of riding in the dark in Laos.

I did manage to go to the Stone House on the way back. Unfortunately it had rained several times since I first arrived in Savannakhet and the road was one long mud patch.

This elderly gentleman was preparing offerings. Wish someone would take time to pick up all the trash that is thrown on the ground though.

Seen these guys as I pulled up to the entrance. I played around with them a bit by beeping my horn to make them gobble.

Seeing these pictures bring back my memories of being there completely alone - very quiet and sitting there thinking how this had looked like in the past.

Nice pictures dude, lots of old ruins down south..

We spent 2days looking for them....

Yes I can see how this could be but I had voices of little Lao boys saying "hello, give me money" in the background. All in Lao of coarse.

Lovely to see you get to the temple Jim. I always feel stone temples resonate with character and presence, something I've never felt with the modern gaudy structures i see everywhere.

I hadn't seen this before, looks like you really found some treasures there BWG.

Thanks for posting that ride.
