Hello all,

I’m french and plan a riding journey in south-east asia soon (4/5 months from October to January).

I will start travelling in Indonesia. Then, I would like to reach Malaysia.

Several options seem possible:

  1. Boat : take a ferry from Sumatra (Medan) to Malaysia (Butterworth)
Is it the only way? How could I arrange that?
Do you know a reliable company (+ approx. costs and timing)?
Can I take the ferry with my bike or do I have to take a flight (in that case, how long will the bike stay at the arrival port)?

  1. Flight : I didn’t find any information about shipping the bike from Jakarta eg.
Does one of you experienced it ?

  1. Maybe another solution ? …

Thank you.

I put the details in a thread a while back. I'll see if I can find it. The situation changed for a while due to some issues with the Navy. Worth checking well ahead of time

I couldn't find it

Google - CAKRA ENTERPRISE Penang - you'll get the contact details. Sumatra to Malaysia is the easy direction. Mr Lim may have retired by now, but ask for him or whoever took over if he's gone

Worth a phone call well ahead.

This was the details at the time - 2012 - but check on Google

You can't travel with the bike. Have to fly

Hi all,

Thank you for your advice. Indeed, it seems there is no many alternatives and it seems worked until know.
I'll tell you when I'll be back...
Thank you again.
