The Route 108, 1099

Total Distance 176 km

I headed east along the 108 for about 40 km then took a right at N18.08.106 E098.11.191 onto a dirt track
DSCF5620.jpg

I have often wondered where this went and today I found out

A pleasant peaceful ride through here

The first of four easy water crossings today and just through here the surface turns to concrete at N18.06.565 E098.12.630
DSCF5629.jpg

In Mae Waen some building taking place
DSCF5630.jpg

No markings on this bike to identify it
DSCF5631.jpg

At N18.06.210 E098.12.699 the surface turns to dirt until N18.05.886 E098.12.678 then its a concrete road to Kong Koi and beyond
Fuel was available from hand pumps at N18.05.664 E098.12.316 and at N18.05.298 E098.11.960

I ride on in a SW direction then take a left onto a concrete road that turns to dirt at N18.04.648 E098.11.434

DSCF5638.jpg

Its looking bleak and burnt but its a very enjoyable ride today and I am spending most of the day exploring new tracks for me

Now if only all water crossings were this easy
DSCF5646.jpg

DSCF5647.jpg

DSCF5648.jpg

I go through another small water crossing and just on the other side some agriculture, I see an awful lot of tomatoes today
DSCF5649.jpg

DSCF5650.jpg

The fourth and final water crossing and I wonder how navigatable this would be in the wet season, no bridges out here today
DSCF5651.jpg

I reach a small village

No snacks available here

DSCF5663.jpg

Hills in most directions now
DSCF5664.jpg

This is a lot steeper than it looks in the photo and its 1st and 2nd gear now for a fair way
DSCF5665.jpg

DSCF5666.jpg

DSCF5667.jpg

I take a right here as it will be a short cut as long as it links up with the track I need
DSCF5668.jpg

At the bottom of the hill it stops
DSCF5669.jpg

DSCF5670.jpg

Its back up the hill and on up the proper track which is steep and very rutted
DSCF5671.jpg

DSCF5672.jpg

I am not the only one thinking that was hard going, the KLX agrees with me as the fan comes on during the ascent, not something that ever happens much
DSCF5676.jpg

DSCF5677.jpg

Now descending over the other side and much easier going now
DSCF5678.jpg

DSCF5679.jpg

DSCF5680.jpg

Now at a crossroads, theres a few side shoots going off the main track
DSCF5681.jpg

DSCF5682.jpg

DSCF5683.jpg

I reach the main track and decide to turn left to ride to a nearby village to get a snack.
Although they sold fuel from a hand pump at N18.02.614 E098.16.873 there appeared to be no food or drinks available here.
I turn round and ride back staying on the main track, I ride through another village seeing no shops either
DSCF5684.jpg

A fire in the distance
DSCF5685.jpg

Its a bumpy but not difficult dirt track for most of the way with the odd short stretch of concrete in places.
I stop in a village, possibly Mae La Luang and here fuel is sold from a hand pump at N18.02.096 E098.18.651.
Snacks and drinks are sold here too
DSCF5686.jpg

DSCF5687.jpg

DSCF5688.jpg

I am seeing more fires now but none of them are too close to the road.
Fuel is sold from another handpump at N18.05.220 E098.20.213

DSCF5690.jpg

DSCF5691.jpg

At N18.06.164 E098.20.418 the road turns to this lovely asphalt surface
DSCF5692.jpg

I have no number for this lovely road
DSCF5693.jpg

Just before reaching the 1099 and loads more tomatoes are growing here
DSCF5694.jpg

I reach the 1099 turning left onto it to ride back to Mae Sariang.
Along the 1099 fuel was sold from hand pumps at N18.06.268 E098.22.479 and at N18.08.193 E098.22.369

The English breakfast for 140 Baht at Sawaddee, this doesnt look like a big breakfast but both times I have eaten it here I have been completely full up

Looks like a good ride with beautiful scenes. Do you carry spare fuel? My KLX 250H (carbed) is fitted with a Clarkes 10 litre tank and I always refill around the 170km or 180km mark.
Is this a 1 day ride, or do you sleep somewhere in the villages? I would like to learn more about how you ride there, like spare fuel, where to get fuel, where do you lodge, do you spent the night in the villages, and how do you pay. Didin't get a chance to do this when I lived in Thailand as the wife was always negative about riding in the country.
Right now, I live in Malaysia and do a lot of motorcycle camping in Malaysia, and riding sparringly in South Thailand. So it would be great if I can know more, as I would love to ride where you rode.

Hi Faz

No I never carry spare fuel as I usually get my days ride on the one tankful and there is fuel available everywhere in Thailand, unlike in the mountains of Malaysia.

I always do day rides and return to my guesthouse every night to sleep

Thanks for the info Slash. I really envy you guys for the abundance of accessible trails there.
