Mae Sam Laep to Huai Hang (Salawin River Area)

There is an extension to the 1194 that seems to end at the Salawin River at Mae Sam Laep. It is a winding dirt road that extends through the mountains for about 20kms to a Karin Village. We were lucky that the road had been recently graded in time for the wet season. It is a great run through spectacular views in this remote wilderness. We met some Karin people who also struggled with the Thai language as they use their Karin dialogue. The young girl in the red shirt in the photo and also is the mother of the boy is still waiting for her boyfriend who went to Lampang 3 years ago.

Turn left at the Salawin River at Mae Sam Laep and there is a newly graded mountain road that runs for 20 plus kms to the village. Some of the Karin villagers are employed by the Thai Government to look after the jungle. I was reading a Captain Slash report yesterday where he turned right at MSL.

Thats the road that becomes dirt and links up to the Sop Moei, Karen refugee village network, one of the most amazing riding areas in north Thailand for sure.
