Legal bike carrier in Thailand or not?

A friend who's a mechanical engineer just knocked this up in Chiang Mai, it will be interesting to see the Thai police road blocks' reaction.

Is it legal?

Is it any safe in turns / potholes? Does the back tire not get used? I would rather put it in that mini-car-truck with the back wheel sticking out the back that this.

It's definitely not good for the gearbox.

Turns and potholes not an issue. Imagine it as a trailer with 11inches of travel. Hanging it off the back is a good idea but the gross payload is about a case of beer and the bed would not fit much more than a front wheel. Tire wear is really not bad. Actually for me it's much worse when I ride on the street. I use it just to get around the check points and take to the base of LMS.

Not a bad option.. but I use this.. easy to load by yourself and fits into your tow bar..

The tube and wire design looks sweet. I made a similar system to carry my bike on my truck using the receiver as well.
