“BOMBIES” and “THE MOST SECRET PLACE ON EARTH” FILMS TO BE SHOWN
For Immediate Release: March 16, 2011

(Chiang Mai, Thailand): Two unique documentary films about the largely “secret” war in Laos, conducted by the United States of America from 1964-1973, will be aired for the general public April 6, 2011.
The first film, BOMBIES, documents the secret United States of America air war in Laos and subsequent dropping of over 2 million tons of bombs, making the tiny country the most heavily bombed country in history. Millions of the “cluster bombs” did not explode when dropped, leaving the country massively contaminated with “bombies.” They are as dangerous now as when they fell 30 years ago.

BOMBIES examines the problem of unexploded cluster bombs through the personal experiences of a group of Laotians and foreigners and argues for their elimination as a weapon of war. Unfortunately the cluster bombs are still a standard part of the United States of America’s arsenal and were dropped in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. More information about the documentary film can be found at: http://www.bullfrogfilms.com/catalog/bombie.html

THE MOST SECRET PLACE ON EARTH
documents the horrors suffered as a war machine, built in the shadow of a larger war, marches on and is sometimes beyond human comprehension. The “secret war” is, as the film’s title implies, an ancestor of today’s American wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But far from being the mold from which contemporary wars were forged, the film depicts a war that is a nightmarish synthesis of total war and colonialism, a war in which two of the most deadly manifestations of twentieth century violence culminate. The evening will be hosted by the Rider’s Corner Bar and Restaurant, 357 Moon Mueang Road, Chiang Mai, Thailand (http://www.riderscorner.net). A 200 THB buffet dinner will start the evening at 6:30 PM, followed by the film presentations at 7:30 PM. This is a “one-time” showing.

All are welcome, we've tested the movies on the large projector screen and all is well - should be a great evening.

Although it has not much to do with the movies itself, but just got word that Bill Young died on 3 April here in Chiangmai. He was a real character and was heavily involved in the secret war. I will bring some more information like the book "Shooting at the Moon" by Roger Warner and the book "Tragedy in Paradise" by Charles Weldon M.D. on the secret war which describe a bit more the role Bill played in what was going on.

Funeral services will be held in Chiangmai with the funeral schedule as follows:

First Church Services (10 Charoenrajd Road, Watket, tel: 053-243072)
Monday: 7pm
Tuesday: 7 pm
Wednesday: 10am, Lunch,
Burial at Ban Den Cemetary (Foreigner's Cemetary) near Gymkhana Club

The Laos Secret War Doco today was very interesting and informative.I could never work out what was the motivation by US forces to bombing Laos.

I come up with this link if thats ok to do?
http://plainofjars.net/war.htm

A very informative narrative on the history prior to the US ivolvement.

Thanks Phil for a great night,oh and the food was excellent!
