so here is the planned loop starting after tomorrow in Patiala where i meet some friends .outstanding route .I start the post so easyer to just put pictures on the road ride on....

Oh.. Of course if someone is in the area and wish to join welcome! We pass Manali on the 9th .btw this is a bring your own bike/ pay your way trip! Planetwayround tour was cancelled but no matter ,nothing is going to stop us!!

2013 Enfield electra .a classic over there.btw that is what i was supposed to drive anyway.only requested permits/accomodation frm agency.didn't work out because of a festival happening there these days, and some cancellations..didnt lose any $, so whtever,better this way.now going with locals,and we all know what we're doing..

So what bike will you use for this trip Forest?

soo..the ride turned out to be roughly around 2700km ,Patiala-Manali-Leh-Lake Pangong tso-Nubra valley-Leh-Kargil-Srinegar-Pantitop-Patiala...went through a few of the highest motorable passes on the planet, amazing landscape and lots of snow melting, with parts of the road in fairly good conditions,still very dangerous with plenty of trucks careless u exist,and sometimes single lane with steep cliffs and erosion due to climate..but very worth it .here some of the pics .feel free to ask any questions and details.i-ll be happy to answer .njoy the ride :RO

Wow really great pictures and stunning scenery, by the looks of the landscape it get's pretty cold after sunset hope you packed some woolly jumpers and some whisky.

500cc..but definetly not the best bike to take out there.it is just a trend in india ,and one of the most popular 'big' bikes.I know u like em but i dont particularly fancy it.Is a good looking vintage and some have a good 'harley ' tone ,but very bulky and slow with luggage,expecially in the mountains etc..i tryed a guy's Bajaj 180cc pulsar 'rally' (also very popular there),and guess what _?,was passing RE and proved to be more versatile..still i missed my beloved and mighty CRF all the way!no comparison

it was quiet hot when i took this pic..expecially wearing riding gore-tex gear ..in the summer is not that cold,yes in a few places above 4000M it was cold at night and occasionally riding.the high planes of Sarchu 4300M,we slept in tents(no other accomodation available) ,Pangong lake 4320M at the border with Tibet..mmh where else ,can' t recall now..oh! Kardung-la the highest pass in the world around 5600M! it was snowing/raining,yes prob coldest but feasible anyway with proper gear..i'll go for it again at somepoint great ride and relatively inexpensive.highly suggested

Yes, the negative spiral that RE was in has been changed by Mr. Lal drastically, he created a life style around RE in India.

Yeah I like them, guess I am a die hard, maybe it helps that I do not drive long distances.

perfect then..for the city is a nice lookin bike..i guess ppl like 'the motorcycle diary' type of pics with it ,over there although prices in TH aren't very appealing is it_? with the new CBX500 just over 200Ks.. oh well.. njoy

In Thailand a CB500F is 205 K baht, a RE Classic 500 255 K baht.
In The Netherlands (my home country) a Honda CB500F with ABS is about Euro 6.500 and a RE Classic 500 is Euro 7.300?!?!
Striking as the difference in Holland is also more or less 50.000 baht

If I look at the price for the RE Continental GT in Thailand, U.K., France and Belgium they are roughly at the same level, ~ Euro 6.400.
The GT is much cheaper in the USA, at around US $ 6.000.

I prefer the RE, even at the higher price, even if the Honda is a more sensible buy, because the RE is not a 13 in a dozen bike.
