Having just left China a few days ago, if you're a heavy data user, if you dont plan ahead, you will want to smash your phone when you get into China with what they block.

One option is to set up a VPN. If its really important to you, ie you rely on gmail as your email, then this is an option.

Google

Anything Google related wont work, when you think about it this is quite a list for people in the western world:

- Google search (chrome will load but use bing as the url)
- Gmail email using any email platform
- Picasa webhosting
- Google maps
- Any app that sources its data from Google Maps or Google wont work

EASY ALTERNATIVE USE BING AS THE SEARCH ENGINE AND HERE MAPS FOR MAPPING DATA

USE LIVE.COM OR HOTMAIL EMAIL

Yahoo

- Yahoo mail didnt work
- Flickr doesnt work
- In fact I couldnt find a free hosting that wasnt blocked (smugmug etc...)

Youtube

Doesnt work

Facebook

Doesnt work. Last time i was here the email upload to facebook worked, this time they seem to have got wise to it and the emails bounced, so without a VPN no facebook.

Line

Blocked , doesnt work, use WhatsApp

What does work

-Skype

-WeChat, a favorite with the Chinese

-WhatsApp works

-live.com email is ok

-hotmail works

(Someone told me that all the porn is blocked too but I didnt test any of course)

There's many more, maybe Butch has some ideas if he sees this
