Local authorities in Mae Hong Son province inspected on Sunday morning the damage caused by a flash flood triggered by heavy rains that hit several villages in Tambon Muang Pon of Khun Yuam district on Saturday night.

Tambon Muang Pon Administrative Organisation president Somchai Wongchanthanapong said Mae Kho Ju, Nong Haeng and Tha Hin Som were affected by the flash flood with inundation estimated at two metres. The flash flood hit the villages at 8pm on Saturday and damaged dozens of rai of farmland. A wooden bridge at Tha Hin Som partially collapsed while a large section of the fence of Mae Kho Ju School was destroyed, officials found.
The flash flood also swept away and drowned a cow belonging to an elderly farmer in Nong Haeng. Withoon Songsi found his dead cow on Sunday morning and said he sold the dead cow’s meat at Bt200 per kilogram in an attempt to recover his loss.
