Govt to pay 250 billion kip in compensation to families displaced by railway
The government has allocated 250 billion kip to compensate families who lose their property to make way for the under-construction Laos-China railway.
Arbitration solution committees in Vientiane and the provinces together with the project developer have agreed on settlements with local people and 94 percent of the land required for the railway has now been acquired, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith told the National Assembly on Monday.
Over 56 billion kip has already been paid in compensation in the first tranche of payouts in Vientiane, Luang Namtha and Oudomxay provinces.

I just hope the compensation money actually reaches the families affected by the railway.
