Chong Mek to Veun Kham Route Suggestions

Can anyone suggest a route from the Chong Mek Border crossing into Laos to the Veun Kham Border crossing into Cambodia? Avoiding Route 13 as much as possible.

I would like to ride the west side of the Mekong River from Chong Mek/Vung Tao as far as possible south then cross the river to hit the Veun Kham crossing.

What are and where are the ferry crossings?

Any hotels to recommend?
