Reigning Moto3 Production Champion, ‘Sup’ Anucha Nakcharoensri returned to form in Round 3 of Motorcycle Mag championship on Sunday at Bira, taking a popular win after a thrilling four-way battle for the lead.

It was Chakrit Sawangsawat who headed the 17-strong grid of Honda CBR 250s, with a best qualifying lap of 1’09.806, 0.185 seconds ahead of Sup, who was the only other rider to break the 1’10s barrier. ‘Stamp’ Apiwat Wongthananon and Waraporn Malahuan completed the front row.

After a red flag when three bikes collided on lap one, the riders resumed their grid positions for the restart. Sup forced his way into the lead ahead of Stamp, ‘TheBell’ Aekkachai Chiengwong and Waraporn. The front two broke free from the chasing pack and locked in a close battle for the lead, with Sup holding his position against a fierce challenge from Elf Smart Honda’s 18 year-old prodigy. At half distance Waraporn began to reel in the leaders and went straight past Stamp as he caught him and then briefly got in front of Sup. As their battle ensued the determined Chakrit caught them, recording the fastest lap of the race in the process, to make it a four way race for the win.

At the start of the last lap it looked like any of the front four could take the win. As they went into the penultimate Honda corner Sup had a bike length’s advantage over Stamp, while Chakrit took a wide entry and tight exit to come out inside Waraporn. The moved worked as he held his line into the final turn to take third place as the first four flashed over the line separated by just 0.316 seconds. TheBell was a further seven seconds back in a lonely fifth place, 4.5 seconds ahead of another tight battle between five bikes for sixth.

The strength of Moto3 Production, which was launched in 2011 by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Thailand (FMSCT) is remarkable. As well as providing highly competitive racing, the quality of the riders is exceptional, based on the evidence that Stamp has scored five podiums and one DNF in six starts in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) Asia Dream Cup. The one-make series for Honda CBR 250s pits Asia Pacific’s best young racers against each other and, currently lying third in the championship, Stamp looks set for at least one MotoGP Moto3 wildcard ride later in the season as a reward for his achievements. That makes him a target for his contemporaries in Thailand, who have so far managed to keep him off the top step of the podium.

Round 4 of the Motorcycle Mag Road Racing Championships (MMRRC) will be on 28th October.

This was one of the best 250 races Ive ever seen, I watched from up on top of the tower in with all off "Sup's" entourage, personally I was cheering our local lad worapong marahuan, but sup managed a second to last corner move on him which in turn let stamp and jakrit through, sups team went berserk when he won, it meant a lot to them and him as he has been missing from the winners circle for a few races now...
great racing!!
