Lots of riders in Chiang Mai at the same time for a change, so a good opportunity to check out some trails that Matt had been shown in the Lampang region by some local Thai dirt riders

A bit of light rain on the way down there, but we'd been told the attraction of the area was that there wasn't much greasy clay to deal with, lots of sandy surface with some rocky terrain too

Considering the amount of rain we'd had, remarkably ride-able, almost water of a ducks back.

An overheating problem with one of the KTM 300's. The thermostat had already been removed so some detective work would be needed to try figure out the problem. Plenty of Camelback water around to refill the radiator

There is a half decent, Thai style lunch stop in a good location by the lake

Time to get inside that KTM and figure out what's going on

It turned out to be that when the thermostat had been removed, when the housing was put back together, the o-ring seal wasn't seated correctly in its recess and and therefore a bad seal, water leaking out.

Did that trail in 40* heat one time with Matt, both the KDX and me overheated.

All fixed and ready for the afternoon's foray

A huge rumble from the distance and we thought we were going to be invaded by 100 Thai dirt riders, it wasn't the case it was the Iron Eagle Motorcycle club down from Chiang Mai, apparently there's a sealed roadway to the lake lunch spot too.

A rare Benelli, looked bigger than the new 600cc model that's now being assembled in China

Good day.. Tho the middle section which became (cough) optional.. Was not ideal for the YZ.. Or me !!

Gassed out by the end of the day but a good ride.. No one down, no major failures.. Win win..

I guess the YZ was quite rambuncious on the rocks and roots during that little ride. Not sure I'd fancy taking it on that middle section either!

Also lack of skill made for a bit too much first gear wheel spinning on wet rock climbs.. So a few radiator top ups and heat issues..

I got stuck on a short climb early into the middle section and was knackered by the time I got it up there.. Rest of the day after that was just gassed out in the arms.. Still the route to and from the first lake was easy and fun enough.. A day with no accidents or failures is a win.
