Distance 217 km

I went out of town riding the road next to the railway line then stayed on the smaller roads

Now following the Ping river as closely as possible

This newish brickwork caught my eye

Its pleasant to look at and makes a change

Sadly up close its not so nice, I am not knocking the quality of the workmanship but rather the poor quality of the bricks that are not of face brickwork finish

Good to see water flowing down the Ping even if it should be more

Sad to see the greenery being chopped down here, quite why shade provided by trees is being destroyed puzzles me

Futher south and its time to enjoy these pleasant roads again

Off to find a reservoir that shows on the GPS map but no tracks are showing how to get there

I can hear pumps going but cant find the reservoir and according to my GPS I am in the middle of the reservoir

This should all be submerged

Riding along the dam crest and no water to be seen

Just this dry reservoir

The overflow which hasnt seen water for some time

Finally I see a swimming pool size patch of water in the reservoir

He happily shows me his dinner

Another dried up reservoir

A third one also with no water, things are pretty severe out in this area

Finally the Huai Ta Pha reservoir has water in it

Back in april 2012 Russ, Phil and myself rode our bikes along the dried up Ping riverbed near to Hot, its getting pretty low now in november and it will be interesting to see what it looks like in late march

Riding back along the Ping

Going by the concrete steps leading down to the river I guess this is a broken up weir

My first time eating here

This succulent juicy beef burger was delicious and proof that Thai beef can be edible if prepared and cooked properly, 295 Baht although with the correct code word there is a 20% discount so I paid 236 Baht and I was certainly full afterwards
