This beautiful harmless Red Tailed Racer emerged onto the road just north of Mae Rim
IMG_7187.JPG
It stopped and let me take the photos before turning around back into the grass
IMG_7188.JPG
I could see from the moving grass it was running parallel to the road then it had another go at crossing the road

This snake was so chilled out and seemed happy posing for the camera, it never once seemed agitated or showed any aggression
IMG_7193.JPG
I was then distracted by two trucks coming along which I had to stop or else they would have run the snake over
IMG_7194.JPG
Back out it comes for its second attempt at crossing the road
IMG_7195.JPG
Then it just disappeared up into a tree

Lovely bendy roads again

I seem to be attracting the wildlife today

Now on a road that should be unpaved according to both Auke's and the OSM maps. Someone has been busy with the concrete lorry
IMG_7221.JPG

IMG_7222.JPG
Eventually it turns to unpaved

I am really enjoying this track

Riding along and a guy was chopping in the grass like he was looking for something then I saw another guy standing there holding a long stick and I guessed they were shooing a snake out.
Before I could get my camera out this cobra emerged and was instantly killed with the stick
IMG_7233.JPG

IMG_7234.JPG

IMG_7235.JPG
Then it was just left there, a savage pointless killing to me as they aren't going to eat it.
Kill all the snakes and watch the rats and other vermin eat your crops seems to be the policy

IMG_7238.JPG

IMG_7239.JPG
The road alternates between paved and unpaved a couple of times

Thanks for sharing the pics Colin, the Race snake pics are spectacular, a lucky spot.

No. Thais kill any snake. They don't care (or take the trouble to find out) which snakes are venomous. I once paid a neighbour 100 baht to give me a 3m reticulated python he'd captured and was going to kill. (He knew I was a soft touch.) I just released it far away from my neighbour. Wonderful to see it quickly slither away to freedom. But those pictures are really good, Colin. A lucky man and a lucky snake I think.
