The most detailed Laos GPS map in the world released

One thing that seems to come up a lot using this map is how in city search to find Luang Prabang.


It has been input with the french spelling, so in the city search type:


m (SPACE) louangphrabang


& Luang Prabang will show in the city search.

Yes, it should work but, as the Laos GPS map is locked to the serial number of the SD card, you will have to use this SD card. The 2465 can have maps in internal memory as well as on the SD card but unlike with most other Garmin units which have the maps in the "Garmin" folder, the 1xxx, 2xxx and the 3xxx series of the Nuvi GPS'es need to have the maps in a folder called "Map" both on the internal memory as well as the SD card. In case you want to add maps it is recommended that you put the maps on the SD card as the Nuvi is very UNFORGIVING to any map corruption which results in it being BRICKED ( it loops forever in loading map )

When you buy the Laos map it will be in a folder called "Garmin" so you will have to rename this folder to "Map". In case you have maps on another SD card in the Nuvi, just copy them them to the "Map" folder on the Laos SD card.

Originally I used an Iphone for navigation but missing good & safe mounting for an the bike makes it an pain in the butt to use it in real life.
So I considered the Zumo 220 or the Montana 600 but actually both bloody expensive, yes I know I could buy them in the USA much cheaper.
So now I am considering to buy 2465 for the half of that price, but still need to see if I can buy an RAM-holder for it with click-on charging (I hate it to plug in/out an cable).
Where can I buy the Laos map?

As far as I know, the 2465 can not be powered from the mount - see also the comparison for most of the Nuvi's here: http://gpstracklog.com/compare/garmi...mparison-chart. Most of the more expensive unit can be powered but then you are looking at prices of over 10000 Baht. Personally I probably would go for the Nuvi 40 (costs 3990 Baht here in Thailand) and buy a RAM mount for it at Gadgetrend and power it from the bike. Please note that the Nuvi's are not considered to be bike friendly (not watertight/shockproof, etc.) but so is the iPhone (there are also RAM mounts for the iPhone).

The Nuvi 550 is the one exception that is waterproof and motorcycle friendly, and it does have a slot for the extra card.

I picked up this combo - http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-nuvi-5...omoto-kit.html - last year. It works fine in the rain, but I have not tested it by submergence.
